Notes on the Map
- Each distillery is assigned a three-letter code, a bit like an airport, to help distinguish them. I maintain a catalogue spreadsheet to keep track of all these 900+ distilleries, and this helps to keep them separate (e.g., all the 'Glens' in Scotland)
- The numbers used on this map are purely random, reflecting the order in which each distillery was added to the map. No other meaning to them!
- Scottish and Irish distilleries are included here to show their relative numbers, even if their bottles won't be appearing on the EuroWhisky shop any time soon
- Their is no upper or lower limit for how much whisky distilleries must produce to appear on this map. They all produce at least one whisky, but they often produce other things like beer, gin, or schnapps too
- Some of these distilleries are so new that they have not released any whiskey yet. Whisky making takes time! But if evidence is available showing that a distillery has whisky in production, it can go on the map
